How much data can a test use?
There is no fixed maximum. A fast connection may transfer hundreds of megabytes or more. Mobile carriers may count the traffic against an allowance and may charge, throttle or apply a cap.
The result reports completed download and upload byte totals. Carrier billing may be higher because it can include TLS, TCP/IP, WebSocket framing, retransmissions and failed requests.
What is transferred
Raftaar downloads and uploads generated measurement payloads. It does not select or transfer your personal photos, documents, messages, contacts or browser history as part of a test.
Measurement providers
Raftaar attempts M-Lab NDT7 first, then browser-compatible endpoints supplied by its configuration API. Cloudflare and AppsGhar endpoints are built in as final fallbacks. Each contacted server sees the connecting public IP and ordinary request metadata.
M-Lab collects the IP address provided by your ISP with the measurement and publishes test results for research under its own policy. This is why Raftaar requires acknowledgment before starting.
Testing safely
Use Wi-Fi when your mobile allowance is small, avoid unnecessary repeated tests, stop other heavy traffic for a cleaner result, and review the transferred-data total after completion.
